Na tabela dos vinte filmes mais rentáveis de sempre a nível mundial constam três filmes deste ano. 'Harry Potter e o Príncipe Misterioso' encontra-se no 11º lugar, com mais de 905 milhões de dólares - e encontra-se ainda em exibição. Contudo, este não é o filme do jovem feiticeiro mais bem cotado; a sua primeira aventura, 'Harry Potter e a Pedra Filosofal', é o 5º filme mais rentável de sempre, com mais de 960 milhões de dólares, seguindo-se 'Harry Potter e a Ordem da Fénix', em 7º, com mais de 935 milhões.

A tabela é dominada pelo mega-sucesso de James Cameron, 'Titanic'. O filme gerou lucros verdadeiramente impressionantes: mais de 1.800 milhões de dólares. Segue-se o capítulo final da trilogia do 'Senhor dos Anéis', com mais de 1.100 milhões e o segundo 'Piratas das Caraíbas', com um pouco mais de mil milhões de dólares. No top 5 consta ainda 'O cavaleiro das trevas', que gerou cerca de mil milhões de dólares.

O filme mais antigo presente no top 20 é 'Jurassic Park', de Spielberg. O filme estreou em 1993 e deu uma receita de mais de 900 milhões de dólares, ocupando o 10º lugar.
